Knutson + Casey provides confidential legal advice and assistance on a variety of legal issues to all students currently enrolled at Minnesota State University, Mankato. We are able to assist students with a variety of issues including: landlord/tenant relationships, accident and injury issues, domestic violence, harassment and other criminal matters, divorce and other family law matters, car purchases, credit and financial issues, and employment issues. The firm has been in existence for over 40 years. It is available because of a special section of Minnesota laws (M.S. 136F.57) that allows the use of activity fees for hiring student legal service providers. We also help students resolve issues they have with other MNSU departments in areas such as housing, financial aid, harassment, discrimination, student discipline, and faculty misconduct. We give students the information they need to evaluate their options and negotiate on behalf of the student in appropriate cases, as well as written letters and legal documents for the student. Students can make an appointment by calling (507) 389-2611, in person, or by completing the appointment request form. The opening hours of the student prosecutor`s office are Tuesday from 9:00 to 12:00 and Thursday from 13:30 to 16:30. Students at Minnesota State University, Mankato are entitled to free legal advice. The Students` Association provides a practising licensed lawyer through funding for student activity fees. Legal advice to individual students and research on legal issues for student body administration are the most important tasks of the Student Advocate.
The student`s lawyer advises and informs students and part-time MSU stakeholders. Our attorneys, staff and volunteers handle civil cases free of charge for Minnesota`s most vulnerable people. That`s why Open Door Health Center partnered with SMRLS (Southern Minnesota Regional Legal Services) to create Lawyers Advancing Wellness (LAW) to support patients with legal assistance. A lawyer is on hand at ODHC every day to help you with legal issues that may affect your health. LAW lawyers can help ODHC patients determine if they qualify for free legal services, based on income guidelines. Student lawyer consultations are available in person during the school year, with the exception of summer sessions. Immigration lawyer consultations are conducted by telephone only and are arranged by email. We offer students a personal student advocate and telephone consultations with an immigration lawyer.
